Beyond the Exhibition Floor: What We Learned at SIMPPAR 2026

More than 300 perfumers and fragrance professionals gathered at SIMPPAR 2026 in Grasse, France.

For Taru Wangi, this was more than an exhibition. It was a chance to listen, learn, and better understand where the fragrance industry is heading.

After two years of expanding our export footprint, we came with one goal: to connect what we have built in Indonesia’s patchouli supply chain with what global buyers need today.

And one message stood out.

Patchouli Prices Are Rising

Across conversations with buyers and sourcing teams, concerns about patchouli supply and pricing came up again and again. The market feels tighter. From our experience managing sourcing in Indonesia for more than 20 years, this often means stronger price pressure in the months ahead.

What Buyers Are Looking For

Our conversations with industry players, including MANE and PRODAROM, highlighted three priorities.

1. Compliance Comes First
For Europe, REACH registration is essential. We were glad to share that Taru Wangi’s Patchouli Oil is fully REACH registered, helping ensure smoother access for EU partners.

2. Traceability Matters
Buyers want more than high-quality oil. They want to understand the people, land, and process behind it. Working directly with Indonesian patchouli farmers for over two decades has taught us the value of transparency. Today, that also means supporting healthier soil, stronger farming communities, and long-term sustainability.

3. Consistency Is Critical
In fragrance formulation, consistency matters. Stable Patchouli Alcohol levels and controlled Acid Value remain key expectations for reliable performance from batch to batch.

Learning Beyond the Exhibition

Our experience in Grasse also took us beyond the exhibition floor. Through a program by SIPPO (Swiss Import Promotion Programme), we visited the Grasse Institute of Perfumery (GIP). It was a reminder that great raw materials and great fragrances are deeply connected. To supply the best ingredients from Indonesian soil, we believe it is equally important to understand how fine fragrances are crafted.

We also had the chance to join the SIMPPAR Garden Party, a moment to reflect, reconnect, and strengthen relationships built during the event.

Looking Ahead

We return to Indonesia with fresh insights and stronger conviction. The future of fragrance will be shaped by transparency, consistency, and trusted partnerships. From sustainable fields to fine fragrance labs, the journey continues.
